Watch live: Harris visits southern border
Vice President Harris will make a campaign stop Friday in southern Arizona, giving remarks from a town along the U.S.-Mexico border.
During the visit to Douglas, Ariz., the Democratic presidential nominee will meet with Border Patrol agents.
In her remarks, Harris will call for more resources for the Border Patrol and say curbing the flow of fentanyl into the U.S. will be a “top priority” if she’s elected in November, according to her campaign. She is also expected to reiterate her support for the border deal that was negotiated by a bipartisan group of senators but failed in the House after her GOP opponent, former President Trump, urged Republicans to vote against it earlier this year.
Trump criticized Harris for the Biden administration’s immigration policies in remarks Thursday and claimed the vice president was visiting the border for “political reasons.”
The former president has a razor-thin lead in the Grand Canyon State, garnering 48.6 percent to Harris’s 47.6 percent, according to The Hill/Decision Desk HQ’s aggregate of polls.
The Harris campaign event is scheduled to begin at 7:45 p.m. EDT.
