Watch: White House holds press briefing as Florida braces for Hurricane Milton

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre will brief reporters Wednesday afternoon as Florida braces for its second major hurricane in two weeks.

Hurricane Milton is expected to make landfall with a powerful storm surge Wednesday evening or early Thursday on Florida’s Gulf Coast, according to the National Hurricane Center.

Jean-Pierre’s remarks come after President Biden and Vice President Harris received updates on Milton’s forecast, preparation for the now-Category 4 storm and potential impacts on the Sunshine State. They were also filled in on ongoing recovery and relief efforts in the Southeast in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene.

“This could be the worst storm to hit Florida in over a century,” Biden said Tuesday. “And God willing it won’t be, but that’s what it’s looking like right now.”

The press briefing is scheduled to begin at 1:30 p.m. EDT.
