WATCH: ‘We should all be kicked out’ if there’s a shutdown, says Graham
All of Congress should be kicked out of office if there’s a government shutdown at the end of the week, says Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.).
Graham, who is working to craft a deal that would fund the government and create a new law allowing about 800,000 immigrants known as “Dreamers” to stay in the United States, said the failure of not funding the government can’t be accepted.
“How does it end? Does it end with the government shutting down? We should all be kicked out if that happens,” Graham told a group of reporters Tuesday.
He said the deal must provide shelter for the Dreamers, but also include tougher border security measures.
“Does it end with the 700,000 kids being thrown to the wolves? No,” Graham said. “Does it end without any effort to secure the border? No.
“So, it’s not going to end poorly, it’s going to end well.”
The government will shut down on Saturday without a new funding agreement.
Other senators were more skeptical that a deal could be struck by Friday.
