Briefly: Trump’s new tariffs

President Trump is enacting steep tariffs on imported steel and aluminum, addressing what he has called unfair practices by U.S. trading partners.

The tariffs, 25 percent on steel imports and 10 percent on aluminum, come even after members of his own party and business groups sought to sway the president to reevaluate the move.

The president says the new tariffs make good on a campaign promise, and the protections will bolster the steel and aluminum industries in the U.S.
