Super-PAC compares Senate hopeful to Ted Stevens

A super-PAC backing Alaska Senate candidate Dan Sullivan (R) is comparing him to President Ronald Reagan and former Sen. Ted Stevens (R-Alaska), two highly popular politicians in the conservative state.

{mosads}”It is time to send our best and brightest to rescue America’s greatness,” the ad from Alaska’s Energy, America’s Values says after playing clips of Reagan, Stevens and Sullivan.

“Washington is broken. Not only does it not see the opportunities, it undermines them. We can, we must and we will change this,” Sullivan says in the ad.

The group is spending $41,000 to air the ad in the inexpensive state, its first of the campaign.

Sullivan is hoping to face Sen. Mark Begich (D-Alaska) in the general election, but first has to win a primary against Alaska Lieutenant Gov. Mead Treadwell (R) and 2010 Senate nominee Joe Miller (R). Sullivan is off to a fast fundraising start and appears to be the front-runner in the primary.

“If you had high regard for Ronald Reagan, If you had high regard for Ted Stevens, you will have every reason to have high regard for Dan Sullivan,” group head Art Hackney said in a statement. “Dan Sullivan has labored quietly, often behind the scenes, for many years and has built a record of accomplishment that shows him to be highly effective in fighting for what most Alaskans want.”
