Leno blasts Congress

Late-night star Jay Leno served a helping of congressional jokes to feast on Tuesday, when he bashed the divided Congress for lawmakers’ inability to work together.

With Thanksgiving on Thursday, Leno reminded his audience that Congress ruled in 1941 that the fourth Thursday in November should be when Thanksgiving is officially observed.

“That’s the last time Congress accomplished anything,” Leno joked. “Isn’t that amazing?”

{mosads}”Late Show” host David Letterman also kept with the Thanksgiving theme, and suggested that New Jersey Governor Chris Christie (R) might have misunderstood what the hit move “The Hunger Games” is all about.

“Chris Christie is very excited about ‘The Hunger Games,'” Letterman said. “He’s apparently under the impression that it’s about competitive eating.”

Letterman also poked fun at another box office hit, “Captain Phillips,” a movie about a ship that was taken over by Somali pirates.

“It’s not easy being Chris Christie this time of year,” Letterman said. “Last year during Thanksgiving, his gravy boat was boarded by Somali pirates.”
