Kimmel slams Ford’s radio appearance
Late night host Jimmy Kimmel on Thursday bashed Toronto Mayor Rob Ford’s appearance on a Washington, D.C., sports radio talk show in which the embattled mayor made a case for his reelection.
Ford said he deserved to be reelected because he saved Canadian taxpayers money during his term and touted himself as a “people person” who would go to his constituents’ front doors to serve them. Kimmel said he was convinced Ford deserved another term, but for different reasons.
“I think he should be reelected because he is hilarious, and because I don’t live in Canada,” Kimmel said.
{mosads}Kimmel also praised Ford’s appearance on the sports show because it showed that Ford cares about things other than politics and proved he has a deep knowledge and passion for football.
“He’s a regular Bob Costas,” Kimmel joked.
Ford was recently photographed at a Buffalo Bill game sporting the team’s jersey while downing a chicken wing. Kimmel said the photograph didn’t bode well for Ford, especially given the scrutiny Ford has faced for his weight.
“He said his trainer provided him with the wings,” Kimmel said. “Either he’s got a terrible trainer or he’s on crack again.”
Kimmel said if Ford doesn’t get reelected, he deserves to be a politician in D.C. The late night host offered a campaign video for Ford, which featured Ford’s highly-publicized antics. At the end of the ad, the narrator said Ford was “Barry good,” a slam to former D.C. Mayor Marion Barry, who was also caught using crack.
“He started it all,” Kimmel said. “He doesn’t get enough credit.”
