Richardson condemns Rodman’s actions

Dennis Rodman’s implication that the American being held in North Korea might be guilty is “reprehensible,” former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Bill Richardson said Wednesday.

“I think what’s most reprehensible is his implication that Kenneth Bae, an American detainee on very spurious charges, who deserves to come home might be guilty,” Richardson, a former governor of New Mexico, said on CNN’s “New Day.”

{mosads}“Basketball diplomacy, out of the box diplomacy, special envoys, non-traditional diplomats can do a lot of good,” Richardson said. “But now because of Rodman’s comments, even some NBA players who were probably just there seriously for basketball diplomacy have been compromised.”

Rodman has made headlines by visiting North Korea, where he has been seen with the country’s leader, Kim Jong Un.

During a Tuesday interview on CNN, he suggested Bae deserved imprisonment when he was questioned about whether he would seek Bae’s release.
