McCaul: Mall shooting like one in Kenya

House Homeland Security Committee Chairman Michael McCaul (R-Texas) on Sunday compared the shootings at a mall in Maryland this weekend to a terrorist attack on a mall in Kenya that left 72 dead.

McCaul said that the Maryland attack on Saturday, in which the gunman shot two people before killing himself, was “not a terrorist threat at all.”

“It’s probably more a domestic squabble. But it does highlight the vulnerability of shopping malls,” he said on CBS’s “Face the Nation.”

{mosads}”Two shootings of soft targets like we saw in the Kenya shopping mall case.  Now that’s the kind of scenario we do not want to see happen in the United States,” he added.

McCaul suggested that having more bomb-sniffing dogs at malls might be helpful, but he admitted there isn’t much that can be done to better secure such public spaces.
