A New Jersey lawmaker says the National Football League (NFL) isn’t doing enough to reduce human sex trafficking that accompanies the Super Bowl.
{mosads}GOP Rep. Chris Smith tells The Hill that the NFL “could be more helpful” in raising awareness of the “horrific crime” that happens in the days before and after the game.
The NFL did not comment, but officials with the organization have been meeting with federal, state and local law enforcement seeking to prevent sex trafficking in the lead up to the Super Bowl, according to numerous reports.
Reps. Ted Poe (R-Texas) and Carolyn Maloney (D-N.Y.) have introduced a bill that would target the “demand” for victims of sex trafficking. Poe said he hopes his bill will move to President Obama’s desk this year.
