GOP pollster thanks president for making election all about himself

Veteran GOP pollster Bill McInturff says Republicans across the country are grateful to President Obama for making the midterm elections all about him.

McInturff, in an interview with The Hill, singled out Obama’s comments about how his policies will be “on the ballot” this fall.

{mosads}He said that underlined the GOP message that the Senate and House elections are about Obama, while undermining the Democratic strategy of turning each election into a local race.

“Most Republicans say thank you to the president,” said McInturff, the co-founder and partner of Public Opinion Strategies.

Democrats “wanted a series of local campaigns and then the chief Democrat of the country says, ‘No, no, no — this is a nationalized election about my policies,’” he continued.

Republicans believe they are well positioned to win back the Senate majority on Nov. 4, in large part because of Obama. Even former White House adviser David Axelrod acknowledged it was a “mistake” for the president to say his policies were on the ballot.
