Press Secretary snacks on snow peas and hummus
White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest is showing off his acting chops, starring in a new video alongside former Miami Heat player Alonzo Mourning to promote Michelle Obama’s anti-childhood obesity “Let’s Move” campaign.
In the minutelong clip released Monday, Earnest is seen standing at the podium in the White House briefing room, appearing sluggish and wondering aloud, “Is anybody else a little tired? Is it warm in here? I should’ve eaten lunch before I came out here, I think.”
{mosads}Mourning, sensing Earnest needs a bit of a nutritional boost, hands the White House spokesman some snow peas and hummus.
The NBA great isn’t the only one making a cameo in the quirky vid. Olympic gold medalists Dominique Dawes and Allyson Felix, whom Let’s Move Executive Director Sam Kass describes as the White House “lunch ladies” are seen serving up an almond milk smoothie and a black bean veggie burger to a hungry worker at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.
“Coffee? Tea? Sure, we got ‘em here. But folks seem to be exploring some other options for pick-me-ups as well,” Kass tells the camera, as folksy music is heard in the background.
“Alright, let’s do this,” Earnest says excitedly after munching on his first lady-approved snack.
No word whether Earnest has “gone Hollywood” since putting his acting muscles on display. But when asked by ITK’s untiring and chickpea-appreciating colleague, Justin Sink, if he could bring hummus to the next press briefing, Earnest replied he would “love” for him to bring the snack. “It is a favorite of mine,” Earnest said.
