Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel is stepping down, the White House confirmed Monday.
{mosads}President Obama removed Hagel over concerns about the fight against the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria, according to The New York Times. The report also said Obama made the decision after a series of meetings over the past two weeks.
Hagel’s exit marks the first Cabinet-level departure since Democrats lost the majority in the Senate and seats in the House in the midterm election.
Obama is expected to announce the decision at 11:00 a.m., according to the White House.
