Key lawmaker: Taxpayer victory on Ex-Im Bank nears

An influential House conservative says it will be a “victory for taxpayers” if Congress prevents the renewal of the Export-Import Bank’s charter at the end of the month.

Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio), the chairman of the conservative House Freedom Caucus, tells The Hill’s Molly K. Hooper that renewal of the bank’s charter “may not happen before June 30,” when Ex-Im’s authority ends.

{mosads}He acknowledged that it is possible the bank’s charter will be renewed in July, but said a lapse in its authority would be a win for conservatives who argue the bank is a form of corporate welfare.

“If it goes past June 30, I think it’s a victory for taxpayers, and hopefully we can keep it from ever happening at all,” he said.
