GOP rep to press Kerry on secret Iran deals
A Republican member of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence intends to press Secretary of State John Kerry on two secret side deals between the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and Iran.
Rep. Mike Pompeo (R-Kan.) tells The Hill’s Molly K. Hooper that he wants to ask Kerry why the secretary of State hasn’t “turned over” documents related to IAEA deals with Iran and “why it is he signed off on this deal without himself having seen them.” Kerry will brief lawmakers privately Wednesday afternoon.
{mosads}Pompeo traveled to Vienna last week to meet with three IAEA representatives involved in the lengthy negotiations to reach the Iran nuclear deal.
Pompeo says he was “shocked” to learn of “at least two side deals that are secret, that Americans have not seen.”
“I don’t know yet for sure if the administration is aware of what’s in these documents, but I’m confident the administration was aware of these deals,” he added. “There were arrangements signed between the IAEA and the country of Iran, with no American approval of those deals.”
