Dems push Voting Rights Act reform
Nearly 50 Democratic lawmakers endured a sticky, hot late July morning this week to press for updating the Voting Rights Act.
{mosads}The Civil Rights-era law was signed 50 years ago on Aug. 6, but, as The Hill’s Molly K. Hooper reports, Rep. Linda Sanchez (D-Calif.) says it is still needed today.
“As a representative who speaks for the Hispanic community, we see attack after attack, week after week, and whether that’s Donald Trump’s offensive stereotyping of Latinos or an effort to make it harder for Latinos to exercise their vote at the ballot box, we see these attacks as ongoing,” the Congressional Hispanic Caucus chairwoman said at a rally outside the Capitol Thursday.
