GOP lawmaker: Government shutdown unlikely
A senior GOP lawmaker is optimistic that Congress can avoid a government shutdown in the fall.
Asked if Congress was heading toward a shutdown when Congress returns from summer recess in September, Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) told The Hill’s Molly K. Hooper that he doesn’t think it is likely.
{mosads}“Government shutdowns should be about important issues that need to be resolved in which Congress is willing to say to the president we need compromise on this or we cannot give you everything you want,” he said.
Congress must approve a bill to keep the government funded by the end of September to prevent a shutdown.
