Boehner’s most emotional pope moment that no one saw
Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) might have received a lot of attention for his display of emotion during Pope Francis’ visit to Washington D.C., but he said his most emotional moment with the pope came when the two had a rare moment alone.
{mosads}”I was really emotional in a moment where really no one saw,” Boehner said during a press conference where he announced his resignation as Speaker of the House and his seat in Congress. “As the pope and I were getting ready to exit the building we found ourselves alone. The pope grabbed my left arm and said some very kinds words to me about my commitment to kids and education.”
Boehner, beginning to choke up with tears, said the pope then gave him a request that caught him off guard.
“Then the pope puts his arm around me and kind of pulls me toward him and says, ‘Please pray for me,’ ” a teary-eyed Boehner said. “Wow, who am I to pray for the Pope? But I did.”
