Homeland Security chairman: US and Russia could join forces against ISIS

The chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee, Rep. Michael McCaul (R-Texas), says the chances of a coordinated effort between the U.S. and Russia to fight the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) are increasing.

{mosads}”I think after the Russian airliner downing, they have a lot of homeland security issues on their own. We do see a possibility of a coordinated force against ISIS,” McCaul tells The Hill.

McCaul contends Russia has the most leverage over Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad, which he says may be beneficial as the U.S. aims to coordinate with Sunni Arab forces on the ground.

McCaul’s comments come just days ahead of a meeting of world powers in New York with talks focused on Syria.
