2015: The year in Congress
The 114th session of Congress began with a new Senate majority leader and ended with a new House Speaker.
In between there were floor fights over trade legislation and Planned Parenthood, repeated squabbles within the House GOP and a historic visit by Pope Francis.
{mosads}By far the most dramatic moments of the year came in the fall, when Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) stunned Washington by resigning a day after the pope’s visit concluded.
Boehner was then one-upped in the surprise department by House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.), who abruptly dropped out of the race to succeed Boehner.
