Lawmakers sounded off shortly after President Obama wrapped up his final State of the Union address Tuesday night, critiquing the president’s speech.
Republican Reps. Kevin Brady (Texas) and Mike Pompeo (Kan.) called the speech “disconnected” and “not grounded in reality,” while Democratic Rep. Gwen Graham (Fla.) said the president’s words were “meaningful.”
Despite his negative reaction, Brady — the House Ways and Means Committee chairman — sounded optimistic that Congress can work with the White House on trade and possibly “welfare reform.”
