GOP strategist: Trump can win party support by staying on message
Donald Trump can shore up the support of GOP incumbents and candidates by avoiding picking fights with fellow Republicans, strategist Ron Bonjean says.
{mosads}”The more that Donald Trump can stay on message, not get in fights with other Republicans or unnecessary squabbles that squander valuable campaign days between now and November, the less likely that Trump will see Republican incumbents and candidates bailing on him,” Bonjean, a partner at ROKK solutions, said told The Hill in an interview.
The veteran GOP strategist said Trump seems to be working better with the party and becoming “a little bit more presidential” as the campaign hits the stretch run.
“It’s been a couple of days but I haven’t seen him get into a big fight with anybody besides, going after Hillary Clinton,” Bonjean said.
“I think that’s the biggest problem the RNC has with Donald Trump, is that he gets himself off message in going down these rabbit holes where it’s so important for him to stay on the theme of wanting change in America.”
