WATCH: Tossing TPP won’t bring back Rust Belt jobs, expert says

President-elect Donald Trump’s push to walk away from the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) agreement will not bring back manufacturing jobs to the United States, an economic expert tells The Hill.

Brookings Institution senior fellow Joshua Meltzer says that while trade was blamed during the campaign for a loss of manufacturing jobs in the U.S. and wage stagnation, that’s “just simply not correct.”

{mosads}”Technology [and] productivity” are behind a majority of the job losses, the global economy and development expert says in an interview with The Hill’s Molly K. Hooper.

Meltzer argued that “turning away from TPP is going to do nothing to help those people in the Midwest, Rust Belt … get new jobs.”
