WATCH: Dem Rep to reintroduce bill preventing Muslim database

A Democratic lawmaker intends to reintroduce her bill to ban any religious registry.

The legislation is aimed at a possible registry of Muslims, which President-elect Donald Trump has discussed.

Rep. Suzan DelBene (D-Wash.) sponsored legislation in the last Congress intended to prevent such a registry.

She said she wants to “make it very, very clear” that “religious freedom is protected in the Constitution and we should not be creating a registry of this kind.”

{mosads}DelBene quickly gathered 66 Democratic co-sponsors for her bill and told The Hill that she will reintroduce it when Congress reconvenes in January.

Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach, a Trump adviser who could have a role in his administration, told Reuters that he recommended creating a database to track people from “terror prone” countries visiting the United States.
