Democrats are wrong when they say that an ObamaCare repeal will backfire on Republicans, a GOP lawmaker says.
“We don’t own it. This was a piece of legislation put together in hurry, passed in the middle of night. … This is a disaster,” Rep. Mike Kelly (R-Penn.) said in an interview with The Hill’s Molly K. Hooper.
Democrats emerged from a closed-door huddle with President Obama Wednesday warning Republicans to turn back from their effort to scale back ObamaCare.
{mosads}Once they begin repealing the healthcare law, Republicans “will own the issue; when they break it, they will have to fix it,” House Democratic Caucus Chairman Rep. Joseph Crowley (N.Y.) said in an interview with The Hill.
But GOP Rep. Tim Murphy (Penn.) said Democrats will be the ones to pay a political price if they refuse to work with Republicans on creating a replacement for ObamaCare.
“If they build boat that was sinking and people in it were sinking and they said no, we’re not gonna throw you a life preserver, that doesn’t go over very well with the American people,” Murphy said to the The Hill.
