GOP senator: We didn’t throw a ‘tantrum’ in 2008
A top Republican senator says Democrats need to “settle down” in their opposition to President-elect Donald Trump.
“We weren’t particularly happy about the outcome of the election in 2008, but that didn’t mean we boycotted, that didn’t mean we threw a tantrum,” Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) told reporters Thursday.
“I think people just need to settle down and realize that the American people have spoken and accept their verdict, which is Donald Trump is the next president.”
{mosads}Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) told Fox News earlier Thursday that Democrats need to end their “temper tantrum” over Trump’s presidency.
Nearly 70 House Democrats have announced plans to boycott Trump’s inauguration Friday. No Senate Democrats have joined the effort.
Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) urged House Democrats to rethink their decision.
“I would hope my colleagues would reconsider. If not, they have that right. I think this is bigger than any one person or any political party, I really do,” Manchin told The Hill.
