A conservative GOP lawmaker says a vote on a bill to repeal ObamaCare is “possible” in the House this week.
“I’m the eternal optimist and I’m hoping we’ll get something this week — the votes are being counted as we talk,” Rep. Barry Loudermilk (R-Ga.) said Wednesday in an interview with The Hill’s Molly K. Hooper.
“We’ve been told that when the votes are there, we’ll bring it up for a vote,” Loudermilk added. Leaders of the conservative and centrist factions of the GOP conference, Reps. Mark Meadows (N.C.) and Tom MacArthur (N.J.), respectively, hammered out a deal over the recess to gain support for the ObamaCare repeal measure.
{mosads}While House Freedom Caucus members seem to back the compromise en bloc, centrists have been less enthusiastic, including Rep. Dan Donovan (R-N.Y.).
Asked if Rep. MacArthur’s sign-off will bring along centrist backers, Donovan said “he’s not speaking for anyone but himself.”
Donovan added, “I don’t think we’re going to get to a healthcare vote this week, possibly next week.”
