WATCH: Anti-Heller ads ‘not helpful’ in fight to repeal ObamaCare, GOP senator says
Sen. Thom Tillis (R-N.C.) says TV ads bashing vulnerable senators on the fence about the GOP healthcare bill won’t help the party’s effort to repeal and replace ObamaCare.
{mosads}Sen. Dean Heller (R-Nev.) – viewed as the most vulnerable senator up for re-election next year – was briefly targeted by ads from a pro-Trump super PAC on Tuesday, before America First Policies decided to pull the spots.
Tillis warned that such targeting is “not helpful” as Republican leaders try to gather the 50 votes needed to pass a healthcare overhaul.
“I’ve expressed it publicly and privately that that’s not helpful, because what that does is divide. This is about multiplication and addition, not division and subtraction,” Tillis said Wednesday of such attack ads.
Asked how President Trump responded in a closed-door White House meeting to Heller joking about the America First ads, Tillis said, “I think very well. … The president’s got a good sense of humor.
