WATCH: Key Republican says ObamaCare mandate repeal could be in tax bill
The chairman of the conservative Republican Study Committee says repealing ObamaCare’s individual insurance mandate is still in the mix for the tax reform bill.
“There was some talk last night that it had been pulled out of being considered. That is not the case,” Rep. Mark Walker (R-N.C.) said in an interview with The Hill on Tuesday.
{mosads}Walker said “a lot of” GOP lawmakers advocated for repealing the mandate during a closed-door conference meeting Tuesday. Later, a smaller group of members lunching with Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) made the case for repeal.
“When you take out the central nervous system component of Obamacare by allowing people in the individual market not to be forced to purchase some kind of government insurance program, if you will, to me that would be a great win, and we’re still hoping that could be part of this,” Walker explained.
