Cruz campaign to report $9 million in bank
HOLLYWOOD, Fla. — Ted Cruz’s campaign has $9 million on hand, campaign manager Jeff Roe told reporters on Wednesday.
The GOP presidential candidate’s campaign made the announcement after a general-election-themed presentation to delegates at the Republican National Committee spring meeting here.
“We are funded, we are vigorous, and we are taking on every state,” Roe said.
Cruz is looking to deflect suggestions he will be unable to pick off delegates in the coming weeks to force a contested Republican National Convention in July.
Cruz is running second to Donald Trump in the delegate count, but Trump expanded his delegate lead by winning 89 of the 95 delegates up for grabs in the New York primary on Tuesday.
Trump needs 1,237 delegates to clinch the nomination before the convention. He has 844 delegates after New York, Cruz has 559 and John Kasich has 147, according to the Associated Press delegate tracker.
Cruz’s campaign reported earlier this month that it had raised $12.5 million in March.
