Sixth woman lodges rape allegations against Weinstein
The Los Angeles Police Department is now investigating rape allegations against the movie producer Harvey Weinstein.
Detectives interviewed a 38-year-old Italian-born model and actress, who asked to remain anonymous, for two hours on Thursday, according to the Los Angeles Times.
The actress claimed that Weinstein appeared “without warning” at her Beverly Hills hotel room, where she was staying for a Los Angeles film and art festival.
Once Weinstein was inside her room, “he grabbed me by the hair and forced me to do something I did not want to do,” the woman told the Times. “He then dragged me to the bathroom and forcibly raped me.”
The actress is the sixth woman to accuse Weinstein of rape.
Weinstein has denied ever having nonconsensual sex with women.
Legal experts told the Times the reported rape, committed in 2013, would fall within a 10-year statute of limitations that was in effect at the time, which likely means prosecutors could bring charges.
The police report is the first to be filed against Weinstein in Los Angeles, where he lives. Two other investigations are taking place in New York City and London.
The Italian actress is one of more than 40 actresses, models and film industry employees to offer accounts of sexual harassment and assault since bombshell reports about Weinstein in The New York Times and The New Yorker.
Weinstein has been expelled from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and his wife has since filed for divorce, citing his “unforgivable” actions.
