‘El Chapo’ push for a movie about his life led to his capture

Mexican drug lord Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman’s desire to have a blockbuster movie made about his life helped lead to his capture.

Mexico’s Attorney General Arely Gomez said Friday that Guzman had been talking to film actors and producers about a biopic, according to ABC News.

{mosads}The communication helped Mexican authorities track down Guzman, where he was captured Friday.

Guzman drew worldwide notoriety when he escaped a maximum-security prison near Mexico City in July. It was his second prison escape.

Gomez said Guzman will be taken back to the same Altiplano prison that he escaped in the summer.

Gomez did not mention the possibility of extraditing Guzman to the United States.

It is believed that the U.S. strongly wants Guzman extradited, to avoid yet another prison escape. The Justice Department did not comment Friday, but a spokesman said: “I can confirm that it is the practice of the United States to seek extradition whenever defendants subject to U.S. charges are apprehended in another country.”
