Trump on Black Lives Matter: ‘I think they’re trouble’
GOP presidential front-runner Donald Trump on Tuesday night said he supported all lives and suggested that supporters of the Black Lives Matter movement are promoting “hate.”
“I think they’re trouble. I think they’re looking for trouble,” the tough-talking tycoon said during a Fox News interview with Bill O’Reilly.
{mosads}”I looked at a couple of people that were interviewed from the group. I saw them with hate coming down the street last week talking about cops and police and what should be done to them. That was not good,” Trump said.
The Black Lives Matter movement that sprang up following a series of high-profile deaths of unarmed black men involving police has sought to put attention on the conduct of law enforcement.
Activists with the movement have interrupted several Democratic presidential candidates, forcing Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) to cancel an event in Seattle.
The activists have sought to pressure candidates to adopt tougher positions advocating criminal justice reform, and have criticized comments from politicians about all lives mattering.
Trump has previously labeled Sanders as “weak” after Black Lives Matter protesters commandeered his microphone at an event.
“I think it’s a disgrace that they’re getting away with it,” Trump said of the supporters’ chants regarding cops. “I think it’s disgraceful, the way they’re being catered to by the Democrats, and it’s going to end up kicking them you know where. I don’t think it’s going to end up good.
“The fact is, all lives matter. That includes black and it includes white and it includes everybody else,” Trump said, suggesting that be a “theme of our country.”
