Anheuser-Busch brewery halts production to send water to Harvey victims

A Georgia Anheuser-Busch brewery has transported more than 155,000 cans of water that had been marked for beer production to Texas and Louisiana in the wake of Hurricane Harvey, NBC News reported Monday.

A brewery in Cartersville, Ga., is sending water using the trucks it typically uses for daily beer shipments.

“Since 1988 we have donated an excess of 76 million cans of clean drinking water,” the brewery company’s vice president for community affairs, Bill Bradley, told NBC. “The Cartersville location is our designated brewery for the emergency water program — it’s something we’re very proud of.” 

{mosads}Bradley said that the company would not have been able to send the water without its local independent suppliers and its partnership with the American Red Cross.

MillerCoors says it has also provided relief to the storm’s victims, sending Texas 50,000 cans of water, which trucks will distribute to Red Cross shelters in parts of the state hit by the storm.

“We’ve also set up a microsite in partnership with Red Cross where employees can make a donation to support victims of the storms,” said MillerCoors spokesman Marty Maloney. “MillerCoors will match all donations made through the microsite for a minimum of $25,000.”

The death toll for Harvey, which first made landfall Friday as a category 4 hurricane, has reportedly risen to at least eight people.
