Mark Cuban floats presidential run as an independent

Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban said Thursday he would consider running for president as an independent.

The business mogul was asked at a conference in Atlanta if he would run for president and said it was something he was “seriously considering,” the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.

“Maybe I run as an independent,” he said. “I don’t know. I’m for smaller government … I think there is a health-care solution.”

Speculations about Cuban’s presidential aspirations have gained traction in recent months after an August poll showed him leading President Trump in a hypothetical 2020 election if Cuban ran as a Democrat.

Cuban supported Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton during the presidential race and has criticized Trump and his policies, even after saying last May that he would be open to being a running mate for either candidate.

President Trump tweeted in February that Cuban was “not smart enough” to run for president.

Cuban added that family life would be a consideration in whether to run, noting that his wife’s thoughts would weigh on the decision.

“If I was single, I’d definitely be running,” he told the newspaper.
