Arizona high school students spell out ‘SOS’ during gun violence walkout

Students at an Arizona high school on Friday spelled out a massive “S.O.S.” during a walkout to protest gun violence.

Phoenix-area Hamilton High School students who walked out of their classrooms as part of a nationwide movement on the 19th anniversary of the Columbine High School shooting in Colorado formed the message on their football field, according to footage from Arizona’s ABC15.

The Associated Press reported that many Phoenix high school students plan to walk to the state Capitol building and hold a “die-in” to push Gov. Doug Ducey (R) to act on gun legislation and school safety. 

{mosads}The “S.O.S.” act echoes actions by students at a Los Angeles-area high school who spelled out “enough” during a gun violence walkout last month.

Students nationwide walked out of their classrooms on Friday in protest of gun violence on the 19th anniversary of the Columbine High School shooting. The walkout is the latest in a series of nationwide student-led movements to demand gun control after the Parkland, Fla., school shooting. It comes less than a month after the “March For Our Lives.”

Washington, D.C.-area students also participated, with many gathering outside the White House on Friday to hold a 19-minute moment of silence.
