Bush was in Maine this weekend to attend an American Legion pancake breakfast in Kennebunkport in honor of Memorial Day.
He tweeted that he “very much” regretted missing the Memorial Day festivities and expressed gratitude to American service members and Gold Star families.
Very much regret missing the Memorial Day parade today in Kennebunkport, and am forever grateful not only to those patriots who made the ultimate sacrifice for our Nation — but also the Gold Star families whose heritage is imbued with their honor and heroism.

{mosads}This is the second time in four weeks that Bush, 93, has been hospitalized. The former president was taken to a Houston hospital on April 22 for a blood infection and released after a nearly two-week stay.
That hospitalization came one day after his wife, former first lady Barbara Bush’s funeral. Barbara Bush died last month after announcing that she would cease medical treatment for chronic conditions.
The former president was also hospitalized twice last year.
