Van Jones: ‘My heart has been restored’ by ‘rainbow wave’

CNN political analyst and former Obama adviser Van Jones said his “heart has been restored by a rainbow wave” on election night after stating earlier that his heart “had been broken” by some disappointing results for Democrats.

Jones’s reference to a rainbow wave is in regards to a highly diverse set of new lawmakers winning congressional seats in the midterm elections.

{mosads}”It may not be a blue wave, it’s a rainbow wave,” says Jones in characterizing what he believes is the dawn of a new Democratic party that is “younger, browner, cooler, more women, more veterans…”

Democrats are projected to take back the House, but not by the massive margins that many in the party were hoping would serve as a complete rebuke of President Trump.

The change in perspective from Jones comes a few hours after declaring the results showing Republicans holding some seats Democrats anticipated to flip as “heartbreaking.”

“This is heartbreaking. It’s heartbreaking. The hope has been that the antibodies would kick in — that this sort of infestation of hatred and division would draw a response from the American people, really in both parties, to say ‘no’ and ‘no more,'” he said.

“That does not seem to be happening tonight. It’s not a blue wave, it’s still a blue war. We’ve got to continue the fight forward. I think that sense of helplessness that has really fueled a lot of this outrage and outpouring tomorrow from Democrats may still be there tomorrow, even if we have the House,” Jones added.

Trump took to Twitter to express his happiness with the results despite losing the House, seemingly referring to GOP gains in the Senate a “tremendous success.”
