Christie calls Rubio’s missed votes ‘baloney’

Ner Jersey Gov. Chris Christie on Saturday took aim at Sen. Marco Rubio’s (R-Fla.) poor Senate attendence record, claiming his explanation for missing votes is “baloney.”

“Let him just be honest with everybody,” Christie said at a New Hampshire town hall, according to the Washington Post. “He’s not showing up now because he’s running for president. Okay, I understand that. But don’t try to make it some self-righteous act of patriotism and a stand that I’m taking because we need a new president.”

{mosads}Rubio, one of five senators running for president, has missed more votes than any of his colleagues. He has insisted Congress is broken under current leadership and that the best way for him to serve is devote time to his presidential campaign.

That doesn’t fly with Christie.

“We don’t believe any of that. You’re not showing up because you’ve got to be here. Well, not here. He’s never here,” said Christie, referring to Rubio’s sparse visits to New Hampshire, “but in Iowa or New York at hedge fund places raising money and whatever it is he’s doing.”
