Residential board sues for nearly $90,000 from man who died in Trump Tower fire

The residential board of Trump Tower in New York City is suing the estate of a man who died in a fire in the building for tens of thousands of dollars in unpaid charges, The Washington Post reported Thursday.

The residential board, in coordination with a Trump Organization attorney, filed a complaint in court on Tuesday claiming Todd Brassner owes roughly $64,600 in unpaid common charges, which includes unpaid maintenance and utility fees in the six months since Brassner died, according to the Post, which added that a judgment of at least $25,000 is sought.

Brassner’s family members and the executors of his estate did not respond to requests for comment from the Post, nor did the lawyer representing the residential board.

The Trump Organization did not immediately respond to a request for comment from The Hill.

{mosads}Brassner, 67, died in April after a four-alarm fire broke out on the 50th floor of Trump Tower. The apartment reportedly did not have a working smoke alarm, and there are no sprinklers on the upper floors of the building.

While President Trump tweeted that the fire was under control because of well-built the structure is, he did not acknowledge Brassner’s death.

The Post reported that Brassner had lived in Trump Tower since 1996, and had an art collection worth hundreds of thousands of dollars. He reportedly filed for bankruptcy in 2015 after struggling to keep up with his payments for years.
