Eiffel Tower lights up for Belgium

The Eiffel Tower lit up Tuesday evening with the colors of the Belgian flag, hours after deadly terrorist attacks rocked Brussels.

The tower was draped in black, yellow and red colors as darkness fell in the French capital, four months after Paris itself saw an outpouring of support following deadly attacks.

The Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) claimed responsibility for the attacks. It also took credit for the November attacks in Paris, which left 130 dead and hundreds more wounded.

World leaders including President Obama, who is traveling in Cuba, have expressed support for Belgium in the wake of the attacks, vowing to bring the attackers to justice.

In New York, the spire of the One World Trade Center will be lit up in the Belgian flag’s colors to express solidarity following the attacks, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced Tuesday.

The 408-foot spire of the building also lit up in the colors of the French flag following the attacks in Paris on Nov. 13.

“Once again, our world has endured another senseless tragedy due to the cowardly acts of truly evil people, but the global community remains united,” Cuomo said in a statement.
