New Yorker cover shows migrant children hiding at Statue of Liberty’s feet

The latest cover of The New Yorker takes on President Trump’s immigration policies, showing migrant children hiding at the feet of the Statue of Liberty.

The issue, which is slated to hit shelves on July 2, features artwork showing five migrant children hiding underneath the robe of Lady Liberty, gripping her legs.

{mosads}”I can’t watch TV news anymore; it’s always people yelling at each other or — worse — people agreeing with each other. There’s always a background drone of outrage, it seems. Stories like this, obviously, are different. The outrage and disgust is justified and real, and needs to be paid attention to,” Barry Blitt, who created the artwork, titled “Yearning to Breathe Free,” told The New Yorker.

The artwork arrives as the Trump administration faces considerable backlash over the separations of undocumented children from their families at the border due it’s “zero tolerance” immigration policy.

The measure resulted in the separation of thousands of children since being implemented by Attorney General Jeff Sessions last month.

The president signed an executive order Wednesday ending the practice of separating families after widespread criticism, but said he is maintaining “zero tolerance.”

Time magazine also delivered a hit to the president on Thursday, with its most recent cover depicting Trump looking down at a crying young girl who was separated from her mother at the southern border.
