Pelosi after ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’: I think politicians could learn from drag queens

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said after appearing on “RuPaul’s Drag Race” that she believes politicians could learn authenticity from drag queens.

“This idea of people believing in themselves, being themselves, taking pride in themselves, is not just a lesson for politicians but for everyone in the country. And that’s why I was so excited and couldn’t resist being on the show,” Pelosi told The Hollywood Reporter.

Pelosi recently filmed her appearance as a guest on the ongoing season of “RuPaul’s Drag Race: All Stars.” She agreed to go on the show in solidarity with the LGBT community as the Trump administration rolls back certain protections.

The episode featuring Pelosi will air Thursday night on VH1. She reportedly tells contestants about the importance of being true to oneself and voting.

Under President Trump, the Justice Department has rolled back certain regulations that protected transgender people from discrimination in the workplace, and the president attempted to block transgender troops from enlisting in the military.

Pelosi said she hadn’t considered what her drag name might be, and she declined to say what song she would challenge Trump to lip sync to during a “Lip Sync For Your Life” segment of the show. Contestants’ lip sync performance is used to determine each episode’s winners and losers.

RuPaul, the show’s host, tells a contestant “sashay away” to indicate they’ve been eliminated. Asked how badly she’ like to tell Trump to “sashay away,” Pelosi told The Hollywood Reporter it “goes well beyond 10.”

RuPaul has been vocally opposed to Trump and said in 2016 that his electoral win “feels like the death of America.”
