Dean Phillips fundraises off Taylor Swift album announcement

When it comes to fundraising off Taylor Swift’s forthcoming album, Rep. Dean Phillips’s (D-Minn.) presidential campaign is “Ready for It,” blasting out an appeal to supporters just minutes after the singer announced her new project.

The Minnesota Democrat’s campaign sent out an email just after midnight Monday with a subject line that echoed the title of Swift’s new album, which she revealed at the Grammy Awards on Sunday: “The Tortured Poets Department.”

“I want to say thank you to the fans by telling you a secret that I’ve been keeping from you for the last two years, which is that my brand-new album comes out April 19,” Swift said during the awards ceremony in Los Angeles while accepting the Grammy for best pop vocal album.

“That announcement, wow,” said an email from Phillips’s campaign following Swift’s remarks.

“No, she didn’t endorse Dean Phillips. Instead, she’s dropping a bombshell with her upcoming album,” added the email, asking supporters to donate $13 to Phillips’s White House bid to match Swift’s number of Grammys.

With a nod to several of Swift’s song titles, the fundraising pitch touted Phillips as being “as fearless in his commitment to this country as Taylor is in her music.”

“It’s time to shake it off and energize voters for the 2024 election. Dean will work to put the bad blood between members of Congress behind us,” the message said.

The long-shot presidential candidate congratulated President Biden on Saturday for winning South Carolina’s Democratic primary.

Biden garnered more than 96 percent of the vote, according to Decision Desk HQ, a partner of The Hill.
