Adele’s much anticipated new album “30” was released three days ago and has already become this year’s top selling album.
The British singer released “30” after a six-year hiatus, focusing her new album on her divorce and motherhood. Her extended departure from music hasn’t seemed to rock her influence over the music industry or her fan base, with Billboard reporting that “30,” which was released on Nov. 19, has sold more than 500,000 copies in the U.S. through Nov. 21.
That puts “30” at 2021’s top selling album of the year spot, surpassing the sales of any album over the past 11 months combined. It also means Adele has beat this year’s previous top seller, “Evermore,” Taylor Swift’s album that sold 462,000 copies through the week ending Nov. 19. “Evermore” was released in 2020 but has continued selling well into 2021, according to Billboard.

Billboard is scheduled to announce the album’s official first-week numbers on Nov. 28. If “30” debuts at the no. 1 spot on the Billboard 200 albums chart dated Dec. 4, it will mark Adele’s third time achieving number one. Her last two albums, “25” and “21,” also topped the Billboard 200 albums chart.
Adele’s latest album includes 12 songs with no features, but does include audio of the moment she explained to her son that she would be getting a divorce from his father, Simon Konecki.
Rolling Stone published a raving review of “30,” applauding Adele for her talent in portraying her emotions through music: “ever since the day she first stepped into a recording studio, she’s been off-the-charts brilliant at sharing them with the world.”
