Travelers may have been exposed to measles at CVG airport in Kentucky, officials say

Anyone who traveled recently through Cincinnati-Northern Kentucky International Airport (CVG) in Kentucky may have been exposed to measles.

The times were Jan. 27 between 5 p.m. and 9 p.m. and Jan. 29 between 8:30 p.m. and 11:30 p.m.

“If you or your child have not been vaccinated, see your healthcare provider as soon as possible to get a vaccine (MMR is routinely recommended for children over the age of 12 months),” the Ohio Department of Health says.

HEBRON, Ky. (WDTN) – If you recently traveled in or out of Cincinnati-Northern Kentucky International Airport (CVG) in Kentucky, you may have been exposed to a serious infection.

The Ohio Department of Health (ODH) says travelers in Terminal A may have been exposed to measles during the following times:

Jan. 27 between 5 p.m. and 9 p.m.
Jan. 29 between 8:30 p.m. and 11:30 p.m.

According to ODH, the exposure is in relation to a case from Montgomery County.

“If you or your child have not been vaccinated, see your healthcare provider as soon as possible to get a vaccine (MMR is routinely recommended for children over the age of 12 months),” ODH says. “Individuals who are not vaccinated should be very careful in watching for any signs and symptoms, because measles is extremely contagious.”

Symptoms for measles normally appear 7 to 14 days after initial exposure. Exposed individuals could experience a fever higher than 101 degrees, cough, runny nose and watery red eyes.

Three to five days after the first symptom, ODH says people may experience a face rash spreading to other parts of your body. Measles can be dangerous, especially for babies and young children.

Individuals that already have the measles, mumps, rubella (MMR) vaccine have a very low risk for developing symptoms and getting sick.

If you begin to experience symptoms, you are asked to stay inside of your home and away from anyone else. You should contact your doctor to inform them that you believe you may have been exposed, so they can take precautionary measures before your appointment.
