Daily Beast reporter on the scaled-down Democratic convention

The Daily Beast’s Hanna Trudo joined Hill.TV’s “Rising” on Tuesday to discuss how Democrats are planning for their August convention in Milwaukee, which is set to be scaled down in comparison to past gatherings due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Trudo noted that Democratic officials were still seeking to show the levels of enthusiasm normally highlighted at a large convention even as attendees are expected to number far lower than past conventions and will likely be required to wear masks.

“It’s no surprise that Democrats want to maintain the feel of a big convention like the Republicans do with the RNC,” Trudo said. “But they want something that’s obviously safe, where people are wearing their masks, where they are socially distanced.”

Trudo added that while former Vice President Joe Biden (D) and top party brass would likely appear in Milwaukee, Democrats had discussed the possibility of delegating other parts of the four-day affair to “satellite” conventions around the country.
