Trump’s approval rating holds at 48 percent, new poll

President Trump has an approval rating of 48 percent in a new American Barometer survey released on Wednesday.

The poll found that 25 percent of voters surveyed said they strongly approved of Trump, while 23 percent said they somewhat approve.

Fifty-two percent of voters said they disapproved of Trump’s job as president, with 38 percent saying they strongly disapproved and 14 percent saying they somewhat disapproved.

Trump’s approval and disapproval ratings remain unchanged from the last month’s American Barometer survey

The polls come as Trump and Republicans gear up for the 2020 presidential election after losing control of the House to Democrats in last month’s midterm elections.

“I think what’s really clear about 2018 was that it was a referendum on Trump,” Democratic pollster Anna Greenberg told Hill.TV’s Jamal Simmons on “What America’s Thinking.”

“While most of the Democratic candidates didn’t actually talk about Trump in their races, there’s no question that if you look at the congressional vote, it was historic in the sense that it was largely a function of how you felt about Trump,” she continued.

The American Barometer polling shows a slightly higher approval rating than some other surveys.

An average of polls on Real Clear Politics shows the president with a 43.1 percent approval rating and a 51.9 disapproval rating.

The American Barometer is a daily survey conducted by the HarrisX polling company on behalf of Hill.TV.

The presidential approval poll was conducted on December 8-11 among 3,004 registered voters. The sampling margin of error is plus or minus 1.79 percentage points.
