Less than half of registered voters approve of the job that Vice President Harris is doing in office, according to a new Hill/HarrisX poll released on Tuesday.
Forty-three percent of registered voters in the Dec.6-7 survey said they approved of Harris’s performance as vice president, while 50 percent said they disapproved. Another 7 percent said they were unsure.
An Aug. 4-5 survey found 47 percent of registered voters said they approve of Harris as vice president while 43 percent said they disapprove and 10 percent said neither.
The latest polling numbers come amid an overall decline in President Biden’s approval rating over the past year. The Biden administration’s approval has been plagued by surging inflation, a chaotic withdrawal from Afghanistan and continued complications due to the coronavirus pandemic.
In addition, Congress has passed only one of two infrastructure bills that were laid out by the president. Both the “roads and bridges” legislation — passed by Congress earlier this year — and the “human infrastructure” bill are key parts to Biden’s domestic agenda. It is unclear, however, how quickly the second bill will be passed.
Harris herself has seen a tough reset in staff following reports of squabbles, a streak of bad press and the vice president’s public stumbles.
On Monday, Harris and the White House rolled out a plan for building out an electric vehicle charging network, that includes the creation of a Joint Office of Energy and Transportation between the Energy and Transportation departments, which will be tasked with implementing the charging network and other electrification provisions in the law.
The Hill-HarrisX poll was conducted online among 926 registered voters between Dec. 6 and 7. It has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.2 percentage points.
