Clinton’s lead narrows to 4 points in national poll

Hillary Clinton leads Donald Trump by 4 points in a new poll that shows the presidential race tightening in recent weeks.

{mosads}Clinton has the support of 47 percent of voters nationally in an ABC News/Washington Post poll released Sunday morning. Trump takes 43 percent.

In a June 23 version of the same poll, Clinton held a 12-point lead, 51 percent to 39 percent.

Voters were split in the new poll on which candidate was best suited to handle the economy, terrorism and taxes, pollsters found.

Clinton, the presumptive Democratic nominee, had a double-digit lead over Trump, the presumptive GOP nominee, on handling race relations, an international crisis, immigration and helping the middle class.

While Clinton in June held a 22-point lead among college-educated white women, pollsters found that demographic is now evenly split between the two candidates.

Trump has a 15-point edge over Clinton among white voters, while 89 percent of blacks and 74 percent of Hispanics support the former secretary of State.

The ABC News/Washington Post poll, conducted July 11–14, has a margin of error of 3.5 percentage points.

An NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll also released Sunday morning shows Clinton with a 5-point lead over her likely general election rival in results unchanged since June.
